Out of the three humors, Vaat is the main cause of diseases in our body.  it takes the attributes the element with which it joins. if it comes with Sun, then it generates heat, if it comes with Moon then it generates coolness in our body. when it joins with Pitt, it works as Pitt but when joins with Kaph it behaves like Kaph.

It helps various different secretions, food, blood etc. to move to respective places inside and stool and urine etc. to move outside the body. All doshas are considered lame without element of air, as they cannot move without it.

Places of Vaat: Throat, Heart, Digestive fire, Rectum and whole body. These are five in number, namely, Pran1, Apaan2, Samaan3, Vayaan4, and Udaan5.
