Yog-Mahapath-Gopiath Kaviraj, Hindi Translation by SN Khandelwal.
There is another dharana different from this one and is called Videh Dharana. In videh Dharana instinct of the consciousness arises outside the body but consciousness remains established in the body itself. The highest from of consciousness is omnipresent. Though such an attribute of omnipresence is there in the consciousness but still it has no value. Reason of this that in this state it can not perform any work outside the body. In the present context both consciousness and mind have same meaning. When consciousness is involved in Videh dharana, then its connection to the karmic bundle slowly gets a little weak. Consciousness is established in the body but its instinct can arise anywhere outside. For example we can say that suppose Sun is located at one place , its rays are spread all over in all directions. For this Videh vritti, physical body is essential. On developing extremely high yogic skill only consciousness can arise without body. Earlier than it can not arise. Hence Videh Dharana is with physical body. Here one should remember that in Videh dharana, chitt vritti (conscious instinct) arises outside the body. To consider Videh dharana as useless is a great folly. Due to its effect only, yogis can attain connection with a distant lying entity and take that form and presence of physical form with that is not necessary. For consciousness nothing is distant or anything which can not be embodied. Though in embodied form we consider consciousness to be bound with body but actually in fact it is omnipresent In a way consciousness is equipped with capacity to convert whole of the objects or forms as per its own volition. Due to the effect of Videh Dharana, through this process size of consciousness starts reducing. Taking support of any object even if consciousness arises, consciousness still remains inside the body. IT does not go out. In videh dharana, consciousness is also embedded in the body. Only its instinct is left outside. Cause of this is that instinct of the consciousness is not irrespective of the body but dependent on it.
In normal body, the consciousness which remains in the body, its instinct also lies inside the body. But in Videh dharana, consciousness lies inside the body but its instinct lies outside the body. In Mahavideh Dharana, consciousness also leaves the body, and instinct is also outside. This dharana is called un-natural dharana. This is natural dharana and while videh dharana is imagined or un-natural. Though videh dharana is imagined but maha videh dharana arises from it. It is very helpful for mahavodeh yogi and is basis him to attain full realization. With the effect of this dharana only, veil over consciousness is weakened. Veil on Chitt or consciousness means veil on rajoguna, till that time its not pure. In the language of Yog, veil is known as miserable deeds or maturation (of karma). In truth of god this is not there and that truth alone is real. Only one in it is free and lighted with effulgence. When yogi becomes skilled in maha videh dharana, then his consciousness becomes free of Karm Klesh (actions generating misery and distress), Dharm Adharam (right or wrong karmas) and Trividh Vipak (Birth-Life and Death). Hence consciousness can not roam around freely. It can not get knowledge.
Due to fickleness of mind and consciousness, it gets bound to the physical frame because of previous deeds or karma. Due to effect Samadhi only this snare depletes. The cause of it is that due to the effect it, the karm or action action lying in the root of the binding gets loose. Here it should be remembered that as a human taking support of the path moves from one point to another in the same manner consciousness also travels from one place to another, The path on which it travels is called Nadi (नाडी). through dharana one should identify them. Even after getting the connection of karma loose, still due to not clarity of the nerve pathways, consciousness cannot be moved as per desire. The benefit generated by depletion of the karm bundle is that consciousness cannot raise any obstruction due to its own movement. In this state, due to ignorance of pathways, though the clarity of purpose being existing still consciousness can not be moved towards desired goal.
It has been said earlier that during Videh dharana, instinct of the consciousness is outward but still consciousness does not leave body but in Mahavideh it starts moving out on its own. Basically, senses follow the consciousness only. Wherever consciousness goes, all senses follow it there....Om!
