KUNDLINI PRACTICE: (updated version)

One of the main aspect of all the sadhanas or higher spiritual practice is the movement of Kundlini shakti. In tantra, practitioners addressed it as divinity , a Devi. In itself, Kundlini sadhana is a very detailed procedure and many scriptures have devoted exhaustive material on it. One aspect of it, as generally seen, is devotional while the other aspect is, totally practical. Tantra people carried two pronged approach to achieve their result in shorter time by utilizing both the aspects.

In the devotional aspect of Her form, stuti, kavach, 1000 names etc has been beautifully written in Sanskrit which are a treat to read and hear. While in practical aspect, various yogic techniques have been devised to raise it from lowest chakra of Mooladhar to highest one, namely, Sahasrar. In the practical aspect going through various procedures, tantra practitioners, used all the knowledge of subtle yogic-procedures. Hence my personal view, which may be different from some, is that tantra has to be practiced in collaboration with yoga to achieve balanced results. Delving in shakti for sidhis in tantra may sometime make the practitioner fall but if yoga is also incorporated in it then chances of reaching the goal are more.

Here one has tried to join both parts of devotional and practical aspect, to make an enjoyable combination. The main Kundlini Devi sketch is drawn by Radheshwariji of radheshwari.blogspot.com. while other sketches were self drawn. Hope all the followers will like this effort. If feed back given is encouraging then one can devise a further more detailed programme, chakra wise. Access the below mentioned link to you tube.......Om!......Shaktanand.

Note: In the Kundlini stuti audio, please take 'sagartaam' and 'sagraat' and do forgive for wrong pronunciation.

                                                     'SOME GUIDELINE FOR DHYAN'

These chakras are located inside our spine which runs through our vertebral column. Sushmana, itself is made up of three different nadis, namely Sushmana, Vajrani and Chitrani which are tubular and coaxial. The Central common axis of these nadis is called Brahm nadi and all the chakras are located on it. Here we are devising a simple practical Dhyan (meditation) procedure without going into great details because the subject is extremely vast though some basic knowledge of certain yogic pranayams, bandhas etc. will be helpful in its practice. For practice, purification of chakras and many asanas and mudras etc. are generally suggested but here we are not going in to those details.

1.Sit in any Dhyan (meditation) asan, which is comfortable. If it is not possible for someone to sit cross legged, one may sit in a chair with a back straight. Do relaxation of all the body parts from head to toe as generally done in Shavasan. The idea is to calm our mind and neutralize our physical body.

2.Visualize 'Kshetram (the field) of mooladhar" i.e the area of Mooladhar chakra. By chanting, 'Hram-Hreem-Hroom-Hraim-Hraum-Hrah', one can perform Nyasa mentally. Then Chanting 'Hum' beej, agitate the bindu of Mooladhar to raise the kundlini. Listening to the sloka, perform Dhyan of Kundalini Shakti as per the sketch drawn. Sketch is just a guide line and not final for everyone. Basically, Kundlini shakti represents pure dynamism and is without any kind of clothes but wears all kinds of ornaments. In tantra at many places it has been visualized as a red hued Shakti with six arms, wearing red ornaments and sitting on a red lotus floating on a red wavy ocean.

3.Mooladhar Dhyan: Chant 'LAM' beej in such a way that the vibrations of the intonation are felt inside the chakra. This space in men is between anus and scrotum, while in women, it is cervix and vaginal muscles. Dhyan of it should be done, as per the sketch drawn, in the horizontal plane inside the above mentioned areas. Then raise the kundlini energy with Ujjai pranayam to Swadhishthan chakra.

4.Swadhishthan Chakra: It is the uro-genital area in males while in females it is genito-ovarian system. Chant 'VAM" beej in such a way that the vibrations of the intonation are felt in the base of the penis in the case of males, while in the case of females, it is felt clitoris, vaginal walls and urethra. It is also felt through practice that when you chant the beej mantra in the location described above simultaneously one feels a sensation in the whole area leading up to tail-bone. Once we are able to locate this area, Dhyan of the chakra can be done as per sketch in the horizontal plane there. Then with the help of Ujjai pranayam again raise the kundlini shakti to Manipur chakra.

5.Manipur Chakra: Udiyan bandh and Nauli kriyas are very helpful in awakening this chakra. It is connected with gastro-intestinal system. Relax stomach muscles, chant 'RAM' beej and feel the location of chakra in the spine at the level of navel. Visualize the chakra as per the sketch in horizontal position. Listening to the description as per sloka also one can visualize. Then with the help of Ujjai again raise the shakti to Anahat chakra.

6.Anahat Chakra: It is at the level of heart, in the middle of the chest and in our spine. One should chant the 'YAM' beej in such a way that vibrations are felt in our chest region only. Visualize the chakra here also in horizontal position. At the end raise the energy again up through the spine to the next chakra of Vishudhi with Ujjai.

7.Vishudhi Chakra: Glottis represent the Vishudhi kshetram in out neck. Chant 'HAM' beej with intonation inside our throat only. Rotate it clockwise inside the chakra. One may feel as if one is wearing something around ones neck. Perform Dhyan of the chakra with the help of sketch and sloka horizontally inside our neck. Then raise it further into the Ajna chakra with Ujjai breath.
8.Ajna Chakra: It is the space between the eyebrows and towards middle of our brain. Chant 'AUM' beej in such a way that we feel the vibration in between the eyebrows. Visualize the chakra with the help of sketch and sloka horizontally in the middle of brain on Brahm nadi which is coming up through our Sushmana and going up towards Brahmrandhra, crown of the head. With Ujjai raise it higher to Sahasrar.

9.Sahasrar: It is the top part of our skull. Chant 'THAM" / "ठं" beej here and feel chakra location as directed by intonation. Visualize this upside down 1000 petalled lotus. One can open and close it mentally. Visualize as per sketch and sloka inside our skull.

On chanting of

'Om Bhu', do dhyan of Mooladhar,

'Om Bhuvah', do dhyan of Swadhishthan,

'Om Swah', do dhyan of Manipur,

'Om Maha', do dhyan of Anhat,

'Om Janah', do dhyan of Vishudhi,

'Om Tapah', do dhyan of Ajna,

'Om Satyam', do dhyan of Sahasrar.

Chanting Gatyatri mantra join the Kundlini shakti with Shiv in Sahasrar chakra. After this, with the help of Ujjai bring it back into Mooladhar chakra through Sushmana and complete this practice.

                                                                             Om Shakti!
