Yogi's State

Yogi's State - ('Akhand Mahayog ka path and Mrityu Vigyan' - Sadhak and Yogi, written by Gopinath Kaviraj and translated by SN Khandelwal.)

Here one is sharing excellent description on different yogic states of dhyan or focus. If properly understood, it will go a long way into making a practitioner understand his or her own state. With this objective in mind, one is trying to reproduce same here for everyone's benefit.

The light in which we perceive the world all around us with our senses, is light of our Chitt only.  Till all the vrittis(वृत्ति)/ instincts of our chitt(चित्त)/ mind keep in ignorant state, one can not understand source of this light. By continuous practice when these instincts are neutralized then instead of outward bound they turn inwards, then light start appearing. This is the light of Pragya or understanding or wisdom. When the instincts of the mind are pacified then our Rajas(रजस) and Tamo(तमो) guna is suppressed and Satva(सत्व) guna rises and then Chitalok(चित्तालोक), Chidalok(चिदालोक) and Pragyalok(प्रज्ञालोक) light up. With help long term practice of this, complete development of this light takes place. In the worldly language it is called Sarvagyata(सर्वज्ञता) or all knowing state. As in the cyclic development of moon, it develops into full moon in Poornima of Shuklapaksh(शुक्लपक्ष) i.e. nights of waxing moon and disappears during Amavasya of Krishnapaksh (कृष्णपक्ष) i.e. nights of waning moon, in the same manner the earlier mentioned Alok(आलोक) or light also first develops into fullness and then it disappears. When it disappears completely, that state is referred to by worldly yogis as Asampragyaat Samadhi (असम्प्रज्ञात समाधि) or Nirvikalp Samadhi(निर्विकल्प समाधि). Rising of wisdom and then its disappearance is in fact Asampragyat Samadhi(असम्प्रज्ञात समाधि) and it is not ignorance. But if pragya does not arise and only chitt vritti are neutralized then it is a state of ignorance only.

All kinds of things are seen by yogi in this very light and many powers are attained from it by him. This is known as Vibhuti (विभुति). After disappearance of this light, the pure awakened state which is attained is known as Kaivalya(कैवल्य). It is beyond state of knowledge and is a state after Vivek-khyati (विवेक ख्याति). Yogis while travel from Vibhuti state to Kaivalya state, establish in a state of beyond attributes which is Atma or self. In various scriptures and religions piercing of this light has been mentioned. If some people with their own effort or otherwise are able to pierce it, they are forced to come face to face with  Kaivalya state. Every body has to transcend that alok or light in their own manner.

But those who have been initiated by a Guru, for them this light form has to be shunned. After getting awakening from their during initiation and with performance of karma of their own they have to cross this alok or light. Actually, this light is only illusion or mirage. By getting initiation from their guru, the yogi does not have to pierce this light but they get established in the higher state and follow yog path. Thus, we can say that even the first state of yog path is beyond this light. If we say that whole creation arises in Chittalok, where mahasamashti of the whole creation finishes, from that very place path of a yogi starts. Not only whole creation is under illusion or maya but even earlier referred Chittlok is also under purview of maya. When Chittlok disappears and Chidalok arises i.e. when the causal entity glimpses start appearing, in that great chidalok a yogi has to move cautiously....Om! Shaktanand.
